Before the Final Curtain + an Omnibus of 3 books

When last seen, as in last week, the phone rang disturbing Becca’s peaceful homecoming moment.

When she heard a voice say Becca, her heart beat faster in recognition; Randall Sloan, the powerful director she’d worked with many times in the old days when he was called Randy apropos of his philandering days.

“Becca, love, I’ve written a new play perfect for you; the FAX is on the way.”

Fingers crossed, she said, “Don’t tell me my character is the faithful companion or the housekeeper.”

His voice deepened to a sexy growl; “You are the lead, Titled Honor Thy Mother, Please,” a poignant comedy, small cast.”

“The lead, oh, oh, oh what’s the part,” and she danced naked on the patio ready to sing and carry on. “You know me, Randy, tell me something, anything.”

“Oh, all right; she’s a lonely widow who lets her daughter and son-in-law move in with her and they abuse the privilege so she goes to a bar and meets a man but just one thing. Are you still in good shape?” “Why do you ask?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Your costume in part of Act one is a towel.”

“I’ve kept in shape, thank you;” as she raced to the FAX to watch pages of a new script drop into the tray to change her life.

  1. I love how out of nowhere Randy pops the question “So, are you still in good shape?” Haha that would definitely catch me off guard!

  2. Great snippet!

I worked on a play in college and the opening scene, the lead had to strip down to her bra and underwear. Originally in the script it called for complete nakedness, but since we were college students, so it was edited. But for auditions for the lead, we had to do a strip tease. Still proud of my school for doing that play – Murderer by Anthony Shaffer

  3. ‘when he was called Randy apropos of his philandering days.’ – This made me laugh out loud! Wonderful, humorous snippet, my friend! 🙂

    • Thanks, darling girl. I know next week’s holiday will be tough for you and Dad if they have Mother’s Day in Canada. I’ll be your loving surrogate any time.
Would you be the first to review the 3 book omnibus for me. I’d be honored. The stories are so fine. Look it up on Amazon It’s on the top. Reconstructing Charlie, Sin of Omission and The Catch, a series my one and only, each one so different. Anyway, sorry to ask but just in case..

  4. Your experience in Show Biz really shows. I can’t imagine how it would be to walk around the stage in only a towel. But you’ll show it, I’m sure.

  5. Like everybody else- a towel. lol. Read your comments about having trouble with it. I watched a Baryshnikov performance where he wore only silk pj bottoms – spent the entire time hoping he’d leap out of them 🙂 (Bad me, bad, bad me.)

  6. I’m sure you would go back on stage at the drop of a hat (or towel?), Charmaine. It must have been a magical time for you. But now, the next best thing, to enthuse us all with your writing about it. Good luck with the release of the bundle.

  7. The ‘randy’ remark was hilarious. Loved the snippet, you infuse your stories with so much of your own fabulous life experience! Glad to see you have a bundle of books out now – best wishes on that and HUGS!!!

  8. My daughter had the lead in a play last year where she had to be stripped down to bra and panties. She was fine with it (told the director that in auditions too) and when I saw it , she actually had on more than if she were in her bikini! But yes, actors have to keep in shape if they want to get the part. Great enthusiasm in this scene, Charmaine!
