A Leg Up On Sisyphus-part 3

When we met last week, all mayhem happened. The King was revealed to be in a Rock and Roll Band called Oneshot and the Hotspots; his newborn son was born and a comely lad he is, towns people admired him verily and a lot.

excerpt: Comely was he with black hair in ringlets needing a good shampoo, a combing and maybe a blow-out. Baby blue eyes you could  die for-that’s where the expression came from-and lots of people actually did.

Anyone who touched him had his hand chopped off if the babe cried; they named him Sisyphus but the kingdom whispered Sissy Face in secret because of his beauty.

I felt Julie move closer to me and didn’t glance up, afraid if I did the two of us would crack up and break the spell I attempted to weave.

It was just as well little Cassie’s small body grew heavier on my lap since she drifted off to sleep.

Another boy was born to the King and Queen Nottonightdear but there is little information about him so listen carefully for a small bit about what Sisyphus did to his brother, like his band of thugs who wore shiny black togas and rode around on two-wheelers called Voom-Voomers. Gold was up; his brother cried a lot and left Corinth for the land of Oh Papa Dow in hopes the market would improve his bad fortune.

Sisyphus became known as a really bad dude, I explained and Julie said no one talks that way anymore, Grans.

A crackle came from the speaker system and sure enough, I heard granddaughter Alison’s laughter come through along with a deeper voice; must be Sean, her boyfriend, they are sixteen, listening in on the sound system connecting all the rooms in the old house.

“Allison” said Julie Beth,”I’m the captain of the Swim Team so what are you the captain of and Sean said, “She’s the captain of me.”

Eulogy to my pilot

The Korean War had begun and he enlisted in the Air Force Academy to learn to fly. And Fly he did until he literally received his wings for the Air Force under General Curtis LeMay. We were married as soon as he got his wings, Then we moved from Chicago to San Antonio, Texas for temporary duty. What a change in our lives for a long time. At one point, his Major got orders for Korea and by luck, the men flew to England, landing with one wing and a prayer. Here he is in a trainer just getting started to learn. His roommate died during a maneuver. Carelessness was not allowed. Throughout that time, he met some great men, traveled to Africa for temporary duty and eventually returned home with the Military Band playing and flags flying. The following morning we had our first child.

Thank you for your service, Lieutenant Bud Gordon  You were a fine pilot, a better husband and father and deserved more of everything in your life. Paul, Amy and This wife miss you every day. We had other children who don’t deserve any mention, sad to say.

A few Moments with Harrison Ford. . .

This one bears repeating, friends. Fun with a stranger on the set of Working Girl.

Of course, I’m the stranger this time. During the break at World Trade Center Building 7, shy me waltzed over to the handsome man dining on a hot dog.  I told him how I loved his scene in Witness-the loft in the barn where he was working on his car and he sang, “Don’t know much about history. . .” We laughed, he gave me a bite of his hot dog and we whirled around in a dance until they called “places.” What a Sweet time and that was my first movie, a part where Mike Nicols had me sing Happy Birthday to Melanie Griffith, hold a huge cake and a batch of balloons.

We met a few months later in an elevator going down. I said, “Hi Mike, you gave the  singing Happy Birthday in Working Girl.” He nodded and said, “Of course I did.”

The elevator opened and we went our separate  ways. This was after  work on Regarding Henry, another Harrison Ford movie. I was the nurse in the emergency room after he got shot. Fortunately the man lives to work and work many times more.

I hope you enjoy theses tidbits  from the Sweet Time when I had a voice. Actually-good news. Primidone is helping me and I almost sound good again. Love to all.

A Moment With Michael Douglas. . .

Yes, I was thereCharmaine Photo for Pinterest. The last day of Fatal Attraction, spirits high. We were in ,would you believe , a bowling alley. No I didn’t bowl. I played the mother of one of the kids. Dressed in a plaid shirt and jeans, I watched the scene. Michael hit strike after strike beaming the whole time. Leave it to me, during the break, I strolled over to him as if we were old friends. “Michael, I loved your movie, “Running.”

The  handsome star lit up. “I don’t know why it didn’t do well at the box office.” I patted his arm. “Well, my husband and I loved it.” He hugged me, the director called places and work began again. An easy morning on set for a movie that turned out to be a huge success.

You can’t forsee the future, of course. Later he married Catherine Zeta Jones and had two children. My precious husband died and I remarried a sweet man to begin a new life. Michael battled cancer; I lost my voice. I write books. Life changes. We move on.

This is what I do now. . .every day. And I love writing.

Introducing Tommy, the sweetest Pit Bull ever

Last night I had a sleepover with Grandest. Of course that includes Gracie the dearest brown lab rescued a few years ago and here is Tommy, my boy friend. He sits his big self on my thin lap and kisses his Granny. Delicious.  Gracie loves if you throw a tennis ball a thousand times and Tommy is a lover. All I do is write in between kisses, laughter and an attempt at gluten free pizza. Sleep happens when Grandest decides we are both tired and she closes her beautiful eyes. Then during the night, she bops me over the nose or forehead and I think of a new chapter. Oh yeah! Life at daughter’s. It’s fun.

So innocent. NOT!

Amy takes her Mom Shopping

It’s not often daughter takes me shopping but when she does, she’s serious. Shop Rite on a cold night and we’re out there buying groceries. The last item was pink gloves and they are toasty warm. What a kid. She also knows everyone everywhere, my teacher daughter. We had a lot of fun.

AbunchA AA Bunch of Gluten Free Food. I can’t help it, Kids. A life-long job of dining.- like fifty years all good.  Now with a good diet.  I’m 54 and hanging in with a good

diet and dancing every day.

12/27/15 WEWRIWA

The weather outdoors is delightful. Who can believe 70 degrees in December and yet it’s here on Christmas day. Forget the snow. Let’s take a walk. I love it. I finished My Valentine story with a lot a laughs. Here’s an excerpt from the beginning:

Father had said “Daughter, you’re hopeless, too off beat to settle down.”  She drank a cuppa delicious coffee and finished eleven more of ‘Let it snow.’ When the door opened, a nice looking young man walked in.
“I’m Ken from the computer store next to you and I um, shoveled your part of the walk again. It’s kinda cute by comparison since our place is big, we’ve been here for years and carry a whole bunch of electronic gear. You’re a funny chick from the cards I see  so how about dinner tonight?”
“Ken, I’d love it, pitiful describes last night’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich.”
“Cool, I’ll pick you up at seven thirty.”
She smiled, waved goodbye, her heart sang for a dinner date, oh my God, I’m not a loser; ‘What will I wear, do I dare, to wear underwear? She wrote a new card in black, white, and red ink, to my Valentine’s Date, don’t be late.’
