The old barn has been restored and is now a beautiful, clean winery on the lower level, with storage and a tasting room above preserving the look and feel of the historical building.

…Everyone should be fortunate enough to have a new friend like Lisa, a pool man like Maverick (WOW), a new lawyer like Elise Bergen, and a Sister Mary Margaret type to help rekindle the fire to be a “winner” after feeling like a total “loser”. Besides these supportive new people in her life, Elizabeth’s life is influenced by a tempting but troubled psychiatrist that wrote a book entitled “Get A Grip”, a remarkable son-in-law, and some super guests at “The Night for Possibilities” not the least of which is Sam Taylor.

Charmaine Gordon brings the characters to life with humor, decisive action, shared tears and stories. In To Be Continued Ms. Gordon takes the reader from a situation of despair to one of joy and love with lots of living done with mature and some not-so-mature exuberance.

To Be Continued with a survive-and-thrive attitude is captivating.

To Be Continued is narrated and produced by Rebecca Roberts, professional voiceover artist and narrator, residing in Florida.

First Love

The scene takes place in Von Stueben High School, Chicago. The year, 1947. We were strangers. He wore a reindeer sweater, this handsome senior, the most popular boy in his class. I ran up three flights of stairs to invite him to a party. He smiled down at me and said, Yes.” From then on we were best friends, always a couple and later when we married in 1951, he said to everyone, “I chased her until she caught me.”

Life as an Air Force bride was the best. Many temporary duties in foreign countries took my love from me. I learned to be self reliant, live alone until he returned and then came the babies. No longer alone, I managed as my friends in the 301st Air Refueling Squadron  did.

Thirty seven years after we were married, my first love died suddenly. Many more years have gone by and now I’m a published author. One night, I dreamed a story of a couple like us. In the morning I began to write. Now What? is a book based loosely on life with my first love. Fiction, of course but if the following blurb entices you, know that the journey is close to my heart and I hope it touches you.

blurb:

It was 2:30 a.m. when the phone rang. I fumbled for it, my heart starting a race toward bad news. Our doctor’s voice urged me to hurry. I crammed into clothes as if I expected this call.

It is only a fever that won’t go down, isn’t it?

Our doctor shook his head. “Carly, I’m so sorry.”

Settling in beside my Bob, I held his cooling hand and asked the two words spoken many times during our years together. “Now what?” This time there was no response. I was on my own for the first time. When my fingers touched his wedding ring, I slipped it off and held it in my fist. The gold band was warm. I clung to him. “Come back to me, dearest.”

Sometimes what you wish for is more than you can live with.

A Wondrous Moment

Feeling kind of low, I stopped at Lord & Taylor for a pick-me-up tee shirt, on sale of course. While waiting at the check-out counter, the woman ahead turned to me. In a husky kind voice, she said, “No matter what the doctors tell you, have faith and believe you will live to one hundred and twenty.” Then she took me by the arm and we walked to a center aisle. With customers bustling by, the woman talked about faith, belief in myself, the future and God. We’d never met before, this woman and I. She didn’t hand out a pamphlet but spoke with clarity, her  blue eyes sparkling the whole time. The only word I spoke was Amen when she finally finished.

After this extraordinary encounter, I walked out to my car in the pouring rain and never got wet. I smiled and thought about the name of the store. Suddenly Lord & Taylor had new meaning.

I wish you all love and good health.

Moving Day

How different my recollections of moving days are from the one recently experienced by my exuberant daughter. I packed and unpacked with care taking time to plan for future new furniture for decor. Then I selected paint and rolled the colors until my bones could roll no more. That’s the way we did it back in the old days. . .like not so long ago. You never hired anyone, folks. You did it yourself.

Of course, daughter is a teacher working full time. She attacks with gale force each task; workmen arranged in advance, furniture selected, play yard installed and in less than a week a new home is finished for friends and family to visit. She’s a remarkable woman, this daughter of mine, with her loving generous heart. And as you can see, she can also leap tall buildings in a single bound.
