Hi Gang, what a year we’ve, both good and not so good but we survived and that’s the best. So we begin fresh.

I have an idea for a new book. The title is Six Degrees of Perspiration. Let me know what you think. This is just the beginning.

excerpt:

“That’s it,” Rachel slammed her handbag on the table at their favorite bistro.
Puzzled, Sarah dropped the menu,“That’s what?”
“I’ve had enough of being a failure as a writer.”
“So what will we do to be successful?”
“There’s no more we; either write alone or forget about it.”
“Please, Sarah, give us one more chance, I have an idea so just listen. This is the title, Six Degrees of Perspiration. Two single women decide to find men to hook up with, something like finding single men who were already vetted and approved by other women and moved on. Guys with hair and teeth, guys without bellies they’d be pleased to date.
Rachel thought out loud, “I’m worth getting naked for and I’d like, just for once, to meet a hot guy with a nice body to feel.

Summer time and the living is easy. Hi Gang. We’re enjoying some great weather the past week in my part of the North East not  far from NYC. Daughter’s even planning trip to our fave, Long  Beach Island, the Jersey shore. I’ve written some fun, delightful stories vacationing down there.

Meanwhile, thanks again for the exceptional critique every week. When Double Becomes Single is just about finished. With your help, I hope it will do well.

excerpt:

She parked then stumbled toward the hospital entrance to hurry to the third floor. The empty elevator suited her, a ghost town so late at night, dim lit and quiet. Something triggered an impulse to RUN. Down the hall she ran to Barry’s room, hip throbbing, where outside in the hall Doctor Mac Bloom paced. He stopped her from rushing in.
“Sharon, he’s had a heart attack, a bad one. There was nothing we could do to save him.”
She shook her head; snowflakes captured in her blond hair fell to the floor leaving damp puddles. “What do you mean, Mac, you always fix everything; you’re the one. . .” She grabbed his white coat and cried, “You’re saying Barry’s gone, he’s dead?”483903_3560363004157_284637259_nFor more snippets from talented writers:

Hi Gang, thanks a bunch for your constructive critique last week. I needed all the help possible to continue.

I just read The Beginning . . .Not The End, a trilogy I wrote last year. To my delight, these mature stories kept me occupied all day laced with humor and tenderness, as I spent the day with my precious granddaughter between swims, lunch and fun time.

On with When Double Becomes Single. The good doctor calls Sharon, waking her from sleep. Never a good sign when a call comes in at 1:30 a.m. and your loved one is in the hospital.

excerpt:

In a daze, Sharon dressed, headed downstairs, pushed the garage door button and wondered vaguely if there was enough gas in the tank. Soon she reached the highway, paid the toll and sped west to the hospital as ordered. She blinked over and over again. The trip from their home in the suburbs after midnight with a light snow falling reminded Sharon she’d forgotten her glasses. Where was the snow shovel and who would do the job of cleaning off the driveway and the long walkway? Too soon for her since hip surgery still had healing to go. A lot of mending happening in this thin body. Barry always called her his pocket wife, so small he could tuck her in his winter jacket. So dear, her Barry.

Hi Gang, thanks for your advice last week. The good news is, I’m two inches better and here we are with snippets galore written by talented writers. Feel free to add your constructive Critique

Continuing with my WIP When Double Becomes Single. Sharon Michaels hopes her husband’s bad cough can be fixed by Mac Bloom, her favorite doctor. He’s in the hospital. She’s just returned home and snuggled in bed with their rescue dogs, Tommy and Gracie. It’s winter in NY.

excerpt:Exhausted after hours visiting with her husband at Community Hospital in Suffern, New York, Sharon stripped and pulled on flannel pajamas. Too tired to shower, she brushed her teeth, washed her face and slipped under the comforter on this chilly night.  She picked up the ringing phone and Mac Bloom, the family doctor said something she couldn’t quite hear.
“Crisis? Is that what you said? What do you mean crisis?

I just left him at the hospital about an hour ago and we kissed and said I love you the way we’ve always done for thirty six years.”
Their doctor for many a long time sighed and she heard urgency and sadness in his voice. “Sharon, is anyone at home with you?
She laughed, felt hysteria rise in her voice. “Of course not since Barry’s in the hospital with a bad cold and cough so Mac, you make it go away, okay?”

Summer Solstice everyone. Longest day and then folks, it’s downhill.

Continuing with Spreading Her Wings one last time today. Last week Sally contacted Lance, the boss of the Rockland Cable Station who pays her big money fro every interview. She tells him about the new play at the Shubert that needs another backer and asks if he knows anyone. Of course, Lance knows everyone. When she gets home he calls to say get dressed, she’s coming with him to a fancy dinner with all the principles. She’ll be his associate as well as reporter. A note left for Steve, her husband, and soon she’s ready to go.

excerpt:
“We have a meeting with a few possible backers I know, so finish the champagne, you look very beautiful tonight, Sally. Also we’re having dinner with some wealthy people at a fine restaurant.” “With the nice compliment and promise of dinner, I’m delighted to be your guest, Mr. Jordan.”

The BMW rolled up in front of Patsy’s, a top celebrities’ favorite restaurant.
“Whoa, Lance, you really know how to treat a woman, am I dressed for the occasion?”
He gave her that slick up and down all around penetrating gaze. “There’s something about you, Sally, that no matter what you wear, say or do, even though you’re married and a tad older than I am, I can’t stop thinking of you so yes, you’re perfect. “ He tucked her hand in his. “Let’s see what we can accomplish in the elite paradise.”
As they sauntered in, Lance whispered, “Be yourself and everyone will love you but not as much as I do, of course.”

Welcome to the best blog hop in town where writers post 8-t0 sentences in a snippet and are bombarded with sincere constructive critique. Yes, you heard me, folks, because we all want to help each other improve our writing. So here goes.

Lat week in my story Spreading Her Wings, a family problem is resolved. Wealthy father realizes daughter has plans of her own and agrees to respect her ideas. Ah fiction. Don’t you love it!Intrepid reporter Sally Kirkwood calls her lecherous boss on the way back to River’s Edge. She has an idea for a story to use on his cable television station. Little does she know he still has a thing for her.

excerpt:

Lance Jordan, the smooth talker picked up, his sensual voice reminding her of last spring when they almost got involved and she said no.
“Are you ready to say yes?”
“Let’s talk business, boss, because I just witnessed quite a scene at the Shubert Theatre with a major backer for the new production, his daughter, and the producer with threats and just about everything.I learned that Johnny Epstein’s the producer and he needs a major backer or a conglomerate interested in investing in the show so he’s not beholden to this other backer with the kid.”
“ I’ll call my connections and get back to you, now what’s your angle on an interview?”
“I’m thinking about what goes on backstage, how it hurts the talented kids when a backer pushes a girlfriend or someone close with no talent into the lead.
“And the name of the play is. . .”
“Damned if I know.”

The voice of Lance Jordan could be heard saying, “Damned if I Know is a terrible name for a play.”

And Then She Said. . .

Grandest and I rushed off to gymnastics last week. In her bag lay a new bright blue top with many straps, very stylish. I picked her up at an after school program, dragged, nagged her to run to my car and zoomed away. “Uh Grans. I’m changing and I didn’t get to buckle up yet so pull over and stop.”

This from the seven year old mouth of my girl who knows , apparently way more than her Grans. So I did as told. She changed, advised me to drive on and we got there just in time.

Watching through the window, I saw the coach adjust the straps of her new top. It comes to this, I thought. The once competent woman can no longer even fix the straps right. Geez. Later, watching through the window as allowed and tired from writing, I saw an older girl helping her with a move on the trampoline. How nice, I thought.

On the way home grandest told me about the older girl who showed her some moves. And then she said. . .”Speaking of OLD, Grans” . . .and we cracked up over the inference of my age.

This conversation resulted in me explaining age is good and important and as much fun as the two of us have, we should be grateful I’m here. My own Mom didn’t last past age 50 and Bud, my first hubs, died at 58. “So,” I said, “Don’t be embarrassed to tell my age to your friends.”

Many hugs and kisses and then we played kick ball until daughter came home.65191_4183432700510_2056845522_nA grandparents love and responsibility to teach and love

Now it snows? And tomorrow we’re expecting 60 degrees then a plummet of temps for the rest of the week. New York, New York, it’s a wonderful town.

Welcome friends to WEWRIWA for snippets galore and the opp to use constructive critique the writing of fine writers.

This week- a bit more in my WIP- Breaking New Ground-title suggested by Evelyn Jules. A major Construction Company owned by the egotistical James Chandler claims to own part of the property the widow Brown has lived on for fifty years. This week -introducing Cindy Lou, Celia Brown’s granddaughter who lives with her temporarily while her mom-a Marine-is in Afghanistan. The six year old needs help with a first grade project.

excerpt in eight:
“I have to interview the oldest member of the family,” she pointed the flashlight to her Granny, and that’s you, Grans, wow, 80! you sure are way old;” she planted a wet kiss on Celia’s wrinkled cheek almost knocking her on the head with a heavy black flashlight and said, “Don’t ever die, Grans.”
“Okay I won’t if you promise not to bonk me and please tell me why are you holding that big clunker?”
Cindy giggled, “It’s for the interview, like a microphone so here we go, ready or not.”
A smile crept over Celia’s face; what fun spending quality time alone with her granddaughter while her mom’s deployed to Afghanistan like Marine after Marine, war after war, for generations the Brown family had served in one capacity or another.
A beam of light flashed into her faded blue eyes and Celia blinked as a deep voice came from Cindy’s sweet mouth, “Once upon a time you were six years old, just like me so where did you live and go to school?”
Caught up in the moment, Celia answered in a little girl’s voice. “Chicago, Illinois, and as if she’d never left the town and grown up, Celia saw the red brick school with a big sign. “Volta School. V.O.L.T.A. and my mommy bought me pretty dresses, laced up shoes, white ruffled socks and I always wore a big red bow in my hair but she didn’t like polishing my shoes ‘cause she had to wait for them to dry and use a clean cloth to make them shine.”
Cindy looked puzzled, “White shoe polish? Didn’t you have sneakers?
The clock turned forward to real time; Celia had a moment of dizziness as she came back to the present and said,
“Honey, we thought sneakers were bad men who sneaked around stealing things that didn’t belong to them”

Baby, it’s cold outside but are we worried? Not a bit. I’m delighted with sales rising for my latest book, Help Wanted. Readers want to move right into River’s Edge where the motto is Kindness to Strangers. Just like the good old days where neighbors took care of friends in need and children played outside without fear.

Today I continue with Sally Atwood returning to the cable company thinking she’d knock Jerald Adams socks off with the Grace Trumbull interview with the sad Saluki and give her the promised job.

Excerpt in eight:

The same receptionist checked the appointment book and with a sour look meant to pierce a heart, glowered at Sally; “You don’t have an appointment.”
Using her new authoritarian voice, Sally said, “Mr. Adams requested that I come in as soon as possible since I have fulfilled his assignment to obtain the in-depth interview with Ms. Grace Trumbull; I have it right here.”
“Oh. Just a minute. ” Out and in, she returned, a smug look on her face to say, “Mr. Adams said he’s not interested in such an interview and thanks you for your time.”
The words from the movie Dirty Dancing popped into Sally’s mind, “Nobody puts baby in the corner.”

Sally Atwood stormed through the door, eyes blazing.
The large imposing man sat, feet crossed at the ankles up on his desk, puffing on a cigar, king of a small kingdom, eyes widened at Sally’s unexpected intrusion.
“In good faith, I followed your assignment with a promise for a job and after I fulfilled my part I find I’ve wasted Grace Trumbull’s time and she’s an important member of River’s Edge Counsel.”  Sally spun on her heels and left Jerald Adam’s office.

T’was a cold and rainy Halloween but who cares. I found a mini Baby Ruth bar outside. We live in a QUIET neighborhood with no kids around. Yet every year husband says, “did you buy candy? And he doesn’t eat candy. Not  a single trick or treaters came by. What are we to do with those cute little Tootsie rolls calling to me? I ask you, my friends. It’s a puzzlement.

Meanwhile it’s wonderful WEWRIWA Sunday and you know me. I write, no matter what. Chelle Cordero came up with the title Help Wanted, Vanilla Heart Publishing said send it over and now it’s available. So yippee and Happy Dance-here’s another eight. No longer a WIP but a published story. Last week Sally was allowed to watch and record a session with a sad Saluki and Grace Trumbull known as the dog communicator, owner of the Pet Emporium. Afterward, Sally meets with Grace for a private in-depth interview in the alcove where it’s quiet.

excerpt in eight:

A breathless Grace entered the small room about ten minutes later and said, ” I refused to let Sammy go home with her until she buys another companion Saluki to keep him company.  ” Pouring tea and munching on a brownie, she continued, “I hope she takes my advice or she’ll have to sue me for custody.”

Camcorder on,Sally began,“You found River’s Edge how, if it’s not too personal.”
Grace’s big brown eyes focused on a middle distance, “The kindness of strangers led me here and here I’ve stayed to open the Pet Emporium with Jim Trumbull.
“And your gift, people call you the ‘dog whisperer or communicator, and watching you with the magnificent dog, I could swear you understood each other.”
Frowning, a few beats passed before Grace answered, her face a study of deep thought and Sally let the camcorder capture her mood.
“I call it a communication just as you and I are doing now, not a mystical talent as far as I’m concerned.

As for Jerry Abrams, that S.O.B., he waved a carrot in front of your nose by saying get an in-depth interview with reclusive Grace Trumbull so we’re going to knock his socks off with this interview and you’ll get the job.”
