DD ereader with handsThe trees are bare; our lawn is golden instead of green. What a gorgeous time of the year except for darkness; she covers the light and night falls too soon.

Dr. D discovered Tony Flanagan’s secret last week. He’s a good man opening his home and heart to foster children; a man to love.

excerpt:

Hacienda for Tiger and me as he pressed against my ankles in need of food. If he knew how to sing, the Rolling Stones “I Don’t Get No Satisfaction,” would be his choice.  Then I saw a message light blinking on the land line and thought please no emergency.
Tony’s voice and my heart beat faster when he said, “Diane, if you can forgive me, please forgive me, let’s have dinner at one of your favorite places and since I don’t know the area very well, pick somewhere special where we can clear the air and get to know each other.
“Hi, Tony here,” and I laughed, the sound of his voice music, a symphony to my weary ears. “ Pick me up at eight, I know just the place, The Conch House on the ocean.”
A date, what do you think about that, Diane, not bad for starters like a baby learning to crawl, then walk, there’s hope. I weighed myself, not a pound gone; I don’t ask for much so I’ll walk every day, eat healthy and see what happens. If by tomorrow I haven’t lost two pounds, I’ll go back to my slothful lifestyle.

Before the Final Courtain with theme borderWelcome to my favorite day of the week with Weekend Warriors where writers share eight sentences of works in progress or already published writing. This week my eight continues with an introduction to Chris Williams, co-star of Becca Morgan. After receiving the news that he’s cast in a new romantic comedy, he reads the script.

Before the Final Curtain, an excerpt in eight:

Chris scrutinized every word and pictured every scene; the one where the main characters realize they may have a future together moved him to tears.  “Once smooth without a scar or blemish is not possible; this is life and we show the marks of experience because at the end, no one leaves the wrapping as smooth as we came in. Look past my scars to see my heart– my unblemished gift to you.” Chris squeezed his eyes shut when he finished reading in hope of tears not falling on the wonderful script but they did, like sudden raindrops.

Then Chris began the real work, highlighting lines, memorizing as he turned pages to cram the words into his memory bank over and over until he slammed the script on his desk and shouted, “Yes, I can!”. In bed with her, back in the good old bad days, we’d go over lines and let them flow.

“You’re not in bed with her, yet” he said out loud and picked up the script, “so learn the first page, pretend her warm body is next to you and the lines will come to you.”

Three hours later, Chris nailed his first scene.
